Message from the CEO 

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Gedeon Richter Plc’s Internet portal. The Hungarian pharmaceutical industry, including Richter, boasts a history going back more than 110 years. We are proud that after all these years we are still able to share the same spirit cultivated by Gedeon Richter through his hard work and sacrifice and his approach to people and healthcare. Many decades of hard work have resulted in Richter being the only company in Central Eastern Europe that has a market network spreading over five continents and products sold in more than 100 countries around the world.

From the very beginning our Company has been working in almost every therapeutic area to make innovative and affordably priced products for doctors and patients. Over the many decades, the effectiveness of these products has made them part of the everyday routine of doctors both in Hungary and abroad.

Our Company’s proprietary drug research concentrates on discovering and developing effective drugs to combat diseases of the central nervous system and the female reproductive tract. Richter has since become the most important pharmaceutical research centre in Central Eastern Europe with an R&D base in Hungary that employs 950 people. Richter’s core activities – researching, developing, manufacturing and selling pharmaceutical products – are supported by several subsidiaries, joint ventures and associated companies. The Company is present in more than 30 countries with five manufacturing facilities, 31 representative offices, and 14 commercial subsidiaries and wholesale companies. Its market network, which is unique among Hungarian companies, includes the European Union countries, the United States of America, the CIS member states, Japan and East Asia. It operates an extensive marketing and distribution network in Hungary, Central Eastern Europe and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Thanks to the PregLem and Grünenthal acquisitions in 2010, the Company is now building up its own sales network to promote its products in Western Europe.

Hungarian pharmaceutical manufacturing justly deserves its global reputation and prestige since Hungarian “grey matter” has made history in this industry by inventing several brilliant technical solutions and chemical procedures and by coming up with several other innovations. This is mostly the result of the hard work put in by generations of fine chemists, engineers, physicians, pharmacists and technical experts, and it is this great effort that continues to provide a solid basis for Richter’s long-term success. Richter will make every effort in the future to further improve its multinational role in the region and to continue to supply the public with innovative products at reasonable prices.
